          JOB SUMMARY:

          The Director of Surgical Services is responsible for ensuring effective operations of the Operating Room, Post

          Anesthesia Care Unit, GI Lab, Central Sterile, and Same Day Surgery units.

          MAJOR TASKS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

          Ensures delivery of quality patient care services.

          Develops unit budgets in collaboration with the administration.

          Monitors and controls cost within budgeted expenses.

          Ensures compliance of assigned departments with established standards, regulations, JCAHO, and federal

          requirements.

          Evaluates patient and unit outcomes and facilitates the process for improvement.

          Monitors and assures staff competency.

          Identifies Performance Improvement (PI) issues and participates in and/or facilitates PI teams.

          Evaluates performance of managers/staff and recommends compensation, promotion, transfer, and dismissal.

          Promotes an environment that nurtures inquiry, creative thought and research development.

          Facilitates unit-based teams.

          Plans, organizes and develops markets as assigned.

          Participates in strategic planning as requested.

          Act as liaison between administrators and physicians.

          Maintain current policies and procedures for departments.

          QUALIFICATIONS:

          Bachelor of Science degree in health related field required; Master’s degree in health related field or business field

          preferred. Related, applicable field of advanced study considered.

          Must be licensed to practice professional Nursing (RN) in Pennsylvania.

          Minimum of three (3) years surgical experience required. Two to five (2-5) years previous experience within a

          management role and demonstrated leadership abilities required. Strong interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability in

          personnel and resource management.
